Greg

Greg grew up a snowball’s throw away from the “A” and “B” Slopes of Pico Mountain—-the legendary racing trails of the historic mountain. He spent most of his early childhood racing for Pico before moving on to a successful high school racing career at Killington Mountain School (KMS). His accomplishments at KMS include: 5 time Junior Olympic gold medalist, Webber Cup champion, Vt. State SG, GS, DH and Overall champion.

In addition to his ski racing accolades, Greg received an Academic Achievement Award for the 2001 academic year at KMS.

Greg went on to attend Middlebury College where he raced independently for one year. In his last year of ski racing he won the Vermont Cup GS at Okemo Mountain Resort. Upon hanging up his racing sticks, Greg picked up his compass and straight-edge and found time between snowstorms to foster his other longtime love of mathematics while at Middlebury. Greg graduated Middlebury in February of 2006 Phi Beta Kappa, a Goldwater Scholar, a licensed secondary educator in VT. In 2008 Greg graduate from Dartmouth College with a Masters in Mathematics. In 2011 Greg graduated from Dartmouth College with a Ph.D. in Mathematics.

Today, even though his ski racing career ran its course, Greg remains a passionate skier and developed a love of the backcountry and photography.

In March of 2011 Greg took his photography to the next level when he won the Stowe Mountain Resort East Coast Supershoot action-sports photography contest. You can see his winning slideshow here. Greg took his big-mountain style of shooting up against a field of mostly park/pipe photographers, and proved that there is the subject matter and the interest for his work on the East Coast. As a result of this breakthrough Greg’s images have been used by Backcountry Magazine, Skiing Magazine, Backcountry.com, Stowe Mountain Resort, Bluehouse skis, Ski Vermont Magazine, the Ski NH annual magazine and more.

Greg can now be found, camera in hand, having adventures on Mt. Mansfield, sniffing out fresh powder on Camel’s Hump, bushwhacking in the high peaks of the Adirondacks and charging no fall lines in the White Mountains of Northern New Hampshire.

Greg is the “webmaster” at FamousInternetSkiers.com, so if something is broken it’s probably his fault. Drawing from the open source WordPress code libraries (including the StudioPressBlack theme), Greg created the architecture of this website. He has a working understanding of HTML, Java, Javascript, PHP, Matlab, Maple, Mathematica, and BASIC.

Check out a gallery of his best shots here.
