Rumors of Storms: Discussion of Early November Coastal Storm (UPDATED – scroll down-)
So when you write about the weather you get a lot of questions from everybody who knows you. Pretty much on a daily basis I get somebody asking me “what’s it going to be like in ___insert random town___ when I go there in ___insert date three months away___.” While it’s cool that people think I know what I’m talking about, and I tend to think to myself “dude..I don’t even have a handle on what it’s doing two days from now.” So I just say it is going to rain. Aside from watching them get all butt-hurt, I figure if I set them up for the worst (I don’t care where you are going, unless you are Ben, rain pretty much sucks) and it is better then they at least come away happy. Why am I telling you this? No it’s not because I want you to stop asking me what it’s going to be like it Hucklebush, Montana during your Elk drive/Ski tour/green-off the grid adventure (it will rain). Rather its because if there was ever a time when the near term was more garbled, I can’t remember it.

Winter found it’s way into Utah last Tuesday and dropped a mere 44inches of snow upon Alta. We took full advantage on Wednesday morning and headed up the Baldy shoulder for our first face shots of the season. Boy, were they good. You could hear Colby Gilmore hooting and hollering all the way from the Colorado Rockies. However, as great as the skiing was, it only satiated our thirst for powder for about two hours. We needed more and we needed it fast.
Saturday morning dawned a humid and cloudy weekend. The kind of weather that turns snow first to slop, and then to veritable ice bergs as it refreezes. We rumbled around the mountains with temperatures in the upper 30s and light snow/sleet falling below 9,000 feet. Justin Altman and I got out and were so uncompelled by the conditions that we only took pictures of Mount Superior:
Seriously. PLEASE VOTE. Whether you vote for the Dems, vote for the GOP, or vote for FACESHOTS is irrelevant. Just get out there and vote! If you haven’t voted yet, WTF are you still doing on this website? We’ll still be here tomorrow, but your basic right and civic duty won’t.

Winter’s back!
I was kinda depressed last week. After some great turns the previous weekend, the Northeast got warm. Really warm. So warm that Lionel launched a new “WTF Weather!?” series. Then it didn’t help to see our western friends with more snow than they knew what to do with (actually that last part is a lie – they know exactly what to do with it!). Yep, all things considered, this past week wasn’t the best time to be a skier stuck jonesing in the Northeast.
Fortunately, the weather changes quickly in New England. Some flurries came in as the temperature plummeted this weekend and Northern Vermont’s Magic Snow (TM) kicked in. By Sunday the snow was really piling up, so after a crack-of-noon start we found ourselves skinning up in a blizzard. Without further ado, here are the pictures! Jackie the black lab came along for her first turns of the season too!
